Michael's Gourmet Delicacies

Growing up, I looked forward to Sunday mornings more than any other time of the week. My father and I would wake up early and go to his favorite deli, the Thorndale. There, I’d watch Moe, the owner, slice the nova lox so thin I could almost see through the slices. As a treat, Moe would sometimes give me a piece of the 'wings', a succulent cut of salmon that I'd eat very slowly, savoring every bite. After the deli, our next stop would be the bakery to pick up fresh bagels. What I remember most about the car ride home, besides the anticipation of eating brunch, was the mingling of aromas that filled the car: fish, fresh bread, a little onion, and a touch of garlic. Sunday mornings made me a fish lover for life.

Years later, I had no idea that this memory would surface as strongly as it did. I mean, as a kid I liked salmon, but as an adult, my appreciation of this simple food grew exponentially.

Then came my wife.

My wife LOVES smoked fish. At the beginning of our relationship, wherever we traveled, whatever restaurant we were in, her first request was usually, “Do you have smoked salmon on the menu?” Over time her taste buds became so refined that she could distinguish the amount of smoking, salt and sugar that was used to cure the fish. One day she turned to me and said, “We could do this and do it better!”

That year, Michael’s Gourmet Delicacies was born. It became our goal to bring to the public the finest smoked salmon available. The response to our fresh and natural product was immediate. Since then, we have expanded our line to include herring, a variety of seafood and deli salads, and even a pickle or two. Our commitment to quality and excellence sets us apart from all others.
